Fifteen year old Clary Fray and her best friend Simon Lewis go to a club where Clary sees a strange kid that seems to be out of place. She follows him into a storage room and when Simon arrives, he is puzzled as to why she is all by herself. Jace, the strange kid, later explains that he kills demons and is called a shadow hunter but Clary shouldn't be able to see him since she is a normal human.
After a call from her mom warning her not to come home, Clary runs home to find a demon instead of her mother. After a long struggle to kill the hideous demon, she is taken to the shadow hunter home where her life will be forever changed. The world she thought she lived in was actually not at all as it seemed. I recommend this book to teens who like action and adventure.
