Meggie, who is living with her dad, has a suspicion that her father isn't telling her everything about what happened to her mother. But how could Meggie believe her father when he tells her that everything he reads about comes to life.

Now, this talent may seem interesting at first, but, when things come out of the book, something must go in. Mo, Meggie's dad, was reading to Meggie's mom when she was sucked into the book, Inkheart. The downside, however, when something goes in the book, it can't come back out. On a magical mission to try and find Meggie's mom, Mo reads them into the book and they too go on an adventure throughout the make-bevelieve world. Will they ever find Meggie's mother?
